Offering shared, private, customized and server vaults

Maintaining appropriate environmental conditions for long-term storage of various media types ensures readability and integrity for decades. Iron Mountain owns and operates six high-security underground sites in the US, which contain a variety of private, shared and customized vaults. Each of these vault options provides optimal preservation and the ultimate in security and safety for your vital records.

Standard vault features include:

  • Multiple levels of security including 24/7 access control
  • Computerized transaction control systems that provide flexible access and chain-of-custody control, ensuring security
  • Standard, controlled environments ranging from 25 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 20-50% relative humidity
  • Class A three- and four-hour NFPA fire ratings
  • Low particulate and contaminant environments through the use of HEPA and gas phase filtration
  • Advanced gaseous fire suppression systems that protect records without the risk of water damage
  • Standard vaults range in size from 600 to 1,416 cubic feet
  • Climate-controlled trucks for secure, dedicated transportation

Shared vaults: Only pay for what you use

Shared vaults provide a cost-effective solution for your vital records protection needs, allowing you to pay for only what you use. Iron Mountain provides standard environments at 35, 50, and 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 25-30% relative humidity. Separate vaults for film, magnetic, and mixed media prevent cross contamination. The shared vault option also includes access to audit rooms that provide a secure space to work with your collections.

Private vaults: Enhanced security and more room to work

Private vaults offer the increased security of dedicated space for your vital records, and are available with the same standard environments as our shared vaults. Larger private vaults can contain work areas and special equipment for your convenience while working onsite. Private vaults allow you to store vital records with preservation, security, and safety, while also accommodating workflows and procedures that are tailored to your company.

Customized vaults: Designed to your needs and specifications

If you have specialized storage needs, such as preserving larger volumes of records, or materials that require special environmental controls, Iron Mountain can design and create a customized vault for your organization. Our engineers can tailor a vault to meet unique requirements, including specialized air-filtration systems, humidity controls, dust-free environments, temperature settings, and electromagnetic shielding. Customized vaults may also include:

  • Remote monitoring
  • Closed-caption television (CCTV)
  • Gas phase filtration
  • Multiple environmental zones
  • Specialized work area
  • Fire protection
  • Specialized racking

Server vaults: Enable rapid recovery for critical applications

If a disaster occurs, can your organization afford to transport and reload your applications and data? Iron Mountain’s server vaults provide secure, environmentally controlled environments to house your critical applications and databases, allowing you to quickly and easily resume operations in the event of a data loss or other disaster.

Iron Mountain’s systems and facilities engineers assist you in all phases of development for your server vault. After construction is completed, our experts remain available to you 24/7 to quickly diagnose and resolve issues.

Features that ensure high availability and reduced cost

Iron Mountain server vaults allow geographically separated active/active processing using mirroring or shadowing technologies to provide recovery. Active/passive and other system configurations are also available.

Taking advantage of shared infrastructure - including dual geographically separated commercial power feeds; backup generators; and Sonet-protected, redundant data communications - can significantly reduce your costs. In addition, the natural 55-degree Fahrenheit temperature of our underground facilities reduces your cooling expenses. Onsite, 24/7 Smart Hands allow you to operate your server vault remotely, paying on a per-hour basis when a physical presence is required.
